Third Grade Objectives
The third grade academic objectives are listed below:
- Recognize and understand greater than, less than, and equal to (<, >, =) using numbers from 0-9,999
- Identify and compare fractions
- Identify and compare decimals - tenths, hundredths
- Repeat multiplication facts and solve basic problems
- Round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100
- Demonstrate an understanding of measurements (length - inches, feet, yards, centimeters, meters)
- Demonstrate an understanding of measurements (liquids - cups, pints, quarts, gallons, liters)
- Evaluate time - to the nearest minute, also days, months, years
- Read a thermometer
- Identify the operation necessary to solve a story problem
- Interpret information in bar graphs, tables, and pictograms
- Add and subtract different quantities of money
- Locate positions on a grid or map using coordinates
- Add and subtract - 2 and 3-digit numbers, regrouping
- Divide simple numbers
- Find perimeter and area of a given diagram or object
- Read to identify setting, characters, events
- Organize information logically
- Write about what is read
- Describe characteristics of folks tales, biographies, and autobiographies
- Demonstrate an understanding of synonyms and antonyms
- Identify multimeaning words and their individual meanings
- Distinguish between fact and opinion
- List characteristics of descriptive paragraphs
- Edit writing for grammar, capitalization, punctuation, spelling
- Use dictionaries, encyclopedias, and other reference books
- Identify different parts of writing such as nouns, pronouns, and adjectives
