Fifth Grade Objectives
The fifth grade academic objectives are listed below:
- Place value of decimals through ten-thousandths (compare values, <, >, =)
- Create and solve problems with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers
- Add and subtract of whole numbers to 6 digits
- Multiply and divide 3-digit by 2-digit
- Add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers, with and without regrouping, reduce answer to simplest form
- Classify angles (right, acute, obtuse) measure and draw angles
- Find area of a square, rectangle, and triangle
- Choose appropriate measuring device and unit of measure to solve a problem (length, weight, liquid volume, area, temperature)
- Convert map measurements in inches to feet or miles
- Estimate solutions using common measurement tools
- Select graphs which best reflects information to be conveyed
- Graph transformation - translate data from one format to another (talley chart to bar graph)
- Decode unfamiliar words using root words, prefixes, suffixes
- Demonstrate an understanding of synonyms, antonyms, homonyms
- Differentiate between fact and opinion
- Draw conclusions from reading selections
- Sequence ideas into a logical order
- Make inferences from reading selections
- Write about what is read
- Write for a variety of purposes (describe, inform, explain)
- Organize information for writing
- Edit your writing - grammar, punctuation, capitalization, spelling
- Identify the correct forms of nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives
- Sequence sentences within a paragraph
- Identify correctly and incorrectly spelled words
